Announcement Queenday 2009
On January 31 (although we always celebrate on April 30, this is the real birthday of the Dutch Queen) we are going to celebrate Queensday in our own special way.
From 11.00 a.m. till 11 p.m. it will be Queen, the British rockband , all along in the Koningshof in Maassluis. There will be many guests and activities. To give you an idea:
Mike Moran. In 1987 and 1988 Mike Moran has worked with Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé on their CD Barcelona. This CD, which was released in 1988, was produced by Mike Moran. He was also the conductor of the orchestra. Previous to the performance of the rockopera Barcelona on Queenday Mike Moran is willing to do a question and answer session, during which he will share with us a few anecdotes from the time he worked together with Freddie and Montserrat.
Karin ten Cate. The Dutch soprano Karin ten Cate has performed the rockopera Barcelona many times now, first with the orchestra of Mario Previti and singer Salvo Bruno and later on with other singers, she has done this in a very beautiful way. During the Queenday she will, together with Norwegian singer Marius Holth (see photo above) and a female choir named Aquarius, perform this rockopera once again for us.
Greg Brooks. Greg Brooks, the Queenarchivist for many years now, has access to all the never before released sound and vision material. In previous years he has already allowed us to listen to some of this stuff, but this time we're counting on him to show us some never before shown footage on video, including some ‘bloopers'. Ofcourse he will be there once again to answer your questions.
Peter Freestone. Peter Freestone was Freddie's personal assistant and chef for the last ten years of Freddie's life. Peter has been in Holland many times now for all sorts of Queen related activities, among which the famous Freddie's dinners of which the proceeds went to the Dutch Aids Foundation. We are always pleased to invite him as one of our guest on our Queendays, because of all his lovely stories, and his willingness to answer our questions. This time we have asked him to attend a ‘cooking demo'. All sorts of Freddie's favourite snacks will be prepared at the scene in a mobile cookingunit. Knowing Peter, he will be telling a lot about all the snacks that Freddie liked.
The Queen Unplugged Project. This Hungarian band surprised all the present fans at the Queenconvention in 2007 in a most satisfying manner by playing Queensongs acoustically. Especially the early Queensongs are a perfect fit for their voices. Their performance will surely give you goosepimples! So, we proudly present....
Edger Hamer. Edger Hamer is chief editor of TROS magazine, a Dutch TV-guide. He is also a huge Queenfan and has written a book about Queen in Holland, which was released in October this year. Voor Queen en Vaderland (Vaderland means native country) is a must have for all Dutch fans who like to read interviews with all sorts of people who had some sort of experience with Queen in Holland throughout the years. Edger will do a question and answer session about the development of his book and ofcourse he will be selling his book and sign it.
